１．「bigger fish to fry」
「もっと優先すべきことがある」という意味
“I have bigger fish to fry than to spend time doing this trivial work.”
２．「food for thought」
「思考の糧・考えるべきこと」という意味
３．「use your noodle」
「頭を使いなさい」という意味
“Use your noodle. You can’t do both of these at the same time. Do this one first and that one second.”
4. 「in a nutshell」
簡潔に言う、まとめるという意味
“In a nutshell, that’s the best price that we can offer.”
5. 「in a pickle」
大変な状況という意味
“He’s really in a pickle. He’s scheduled two appointments at the same time. One’s in Tachikawa, one’s in Chiba.”
6. 「couch potato」
テレビの前に座ってポテチを食べながら、ただチャンネルをまわしている様子
“He works hard five days a week, Monday through Friday but often on the weekends, he’s a real couch potato.”
7. 「a hot potato」
触れてはいけないような話題という意味
“The recent political situation is a real hot potato.”
8. 「a grain of salt（一粒の塩）」
「to take something with a grain of salt」
聞いたことを鵜呑みにしてはいけないという意味
“Talking with him, always take it with a grain of salt because we never know if he’s telling the truth or not.”
9．「the greatest thing since sliced bread」
最高のものという意味
“He thinks he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread.”
10．「soup up」
「to soup something up」
改造して元よりも格好よくするという意味
11. 「my cup of tea」または「not my cup of tea」
「my cup of tea」というと自分が好むこと
対して好きでないものに対しては「not my cup of tea」
“Skiing is his cup of tea.” “Snowboarding is not his cup of tea.”
