１． 「an apple of one’s eye」
その人にとって特別な人という意味
“His granddaughter is the apple of his eye.”

２．「a bad apple」
「周りに悪影響を与える人」という意味
“He’s really a bad apple. He’s always getting into trouble.”

３．「spill the beans」
「うっかり秘密を漏らす」という意味
“He spilled the beans and told her all the plans about the birthday party for her.”

4. 「bread and butter」
「one’s bread and butter」と言った場合その人の主な収入源という意味
“Working at this school is my bread and butter.”

5. 「to butter someone up」
その人をおだてて味方につけることを言う
“He’s always buttering up the boss to get favors or special treatment.”

6. 「piece of cake」
「piece of cake」＝「朝飯前」すぐに終わる簡単なこと
“This job is a piece of cake. I can finish it in 10 minutes, won’t take any time at all”

7. 「one smart cookie」
「cookie」＝「頭の切れる人」という意味
“She’s one smart cookie. She hardly ever makes any mistakes on the tests.”

落ち着いている状態や人のことを言う

10．「to egg someone on」
誰かに何かをするようそそのかすこと・その人に何かをするよう後押しする
こと
“He’s very good at doing impersonations of famous people but he doesn’t want to do it all the time but at the party, we like to egg him on to do his impersonations of famous people. “

11. 「to walk on eggshells」
「慎重に行動する」という意味
“Talking with him is like walking on eggshells because we never know what his mood’s going to be.”
